  • A Registered Psychotherapist is a professional dedicated to improving and maintaining individuals' mental health and well-being through talk-based therapy. It involves a collaborative relationship where the client and the psychotherapist work together to instigate positive changes in thinking, feeling, behaviour, and social functioning.

Registered Psychotherapists ensure a safe and confidential environment, set clear goals, and follow ethical standards outlined by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Psychotherapy is a controlled act in Ontario, Canada.

Psychotherapists hold advanced degrees in psychology, counselling, or related fields, they have completed supervised clinical experience, and they must meet and maintain stringent licensing and registration requirements.

  • Regrettably, my current services are limited to counselling as a psychotherapist. Nevertheless, it's important to highlight that I bring substantial counselling expertise and practical knowledge to my practice, particularly in areas concerning chronic illness, eating disorders, intuitive eating, and the relationship with food. These experiences consistently shape and enrich my approach.

  • This truly varies depending on your goals, your initial assessment and the reassessment of progress, and the nature of treatment.

I generally work with clients who are looking for deeper healing from developmental and relational trauma. This work generally requires a larger investment of time and of resources. It isn't unusual to spend a minimum of 6 month to a year in regular psychotherapy to begin to experience long lasting change.

I often work with clients weekly or bi-weekly at the start of treatment to gain momentum and to set a solid foundation. Some clients choose to spread out sessions once a solid foundation is set.

  • At the moment, I exclusively offer virtual sessions and do not conduct in-person appointments.

  • No, a referral from another healthcare provider is not required to work with me.

  • I would recommend reading the "Do I have Trauma?" page to being exploring this topic.

However, it is important to note that not all mental health and physical health issues are connected to trauma.

Still feeling unsure? Book at a free 15 minute discovery call to see if psychotherapy would be worthwhile exploring.

  • While it's not uncommon to experience temporary discomfort or heightened emotions after certain psychotherapy sessions, it's essential to communicate any concerns with me as your therapist. These reactions can be part of the therapeutic process as we explore and address deep-seated issues.

Additionally, healing trauma may stir up physical discomfort and symptoms in the body. This is a natural part of the healing journey, and we can work collaboratively to navigate and manage these experiences, ensuring your well-being is prioritized throughout the therapeutic process.

  • No, Soulsearchitis is not recognized as an official mental health condition. I coined the term to encapsulate the essence of my psychotherapy practice, emphasizing my commitment to personal growth and exploration. It symbolizes the human experience of seeking acceptance and belonging externally, while my therapeutic approach focuses on guiding individuals through a healing journey of internal self-discovery and integration.

    Soulsearchitis

    noun · sōl-sərch-ī-təs

A condition of the soul that is characterized by boundless suffering in which a human being searches externally for acceptance and belonging.

Living with soulsearchitis involves a healing journey of tuning inwards to tend to the parts that have been outcast due to emotional harm. Once the parts begin to reintegrate, a path to self will emerge.
